Oak Arts & Crafts Crib-youth sofa

Dryad Studios has made hundreds of these cribs before, but mainly out of ash. We were asked to recreate our classic A & C crib in oak. Along with the modernization of no longer having a drop side and the elaborate hardware from before, we also…

Profile Information

Tell us about yourself:
Dryad Studios is the Schmitt family.....Michael, Judy, and our three children...Alana, Jennifer, and Christopher. We have been Arts & Crafts furniture makers since 1985. Our sawmill, studio and home are on our 160 acre "tree farm", in Arkansas, near the Buffalo River Headwaters, and Ozark National Forest. We raise, log, saw, and kiln dry our own quarter-sawn lumber for the finest Arts & Crafts furniture available. Along the way, we manage a nearly complete self-sustaining lifestyle, with an emphasis on Organic food and stewardship of all our resources.
Our three children have been working in the shop since they were 10 years old. Now the Twins, Jennifer & Alana, and Chris are in their mid 20's and proficient furniture makers. The 5 of us are able to make only about 200-300 pieces of furniture a year. EVERY piece and every customer is special to us. Our work is built to last centuries.
Please visit our web site, and wander through the "Philosophy"... "Shop Tour" .... " About Us" ..... and "Custom Work" , sections for an in depth view of our dedication to the Arts & Crafts Movement.
Tell us about your Arts & Crafts house experiences and dreams:
Our furniture is in hundreds of homes around the world.

Our work was used to reacquire the copyright on the Roycroft Orb-and-Cross symbol in 1988. We produced one of the largest, to date, collections of Stickley reproductions for the 1989 Grove Park show. The Academics deemed it "masterful" and Fine Homebuilding called it , ".....work of the highest quality".
In 2000, we were selected to design furniture for the Capitol Restoration of the Arkansas Capitol. Our designs dovetailed perfectly with the "turn-of-the-century", Arts & Crafts motif. We produced dozens of pieces for the Governor's Reception Room, Supreme Court Chambers, and Senate Chambers.
We designed and built bedroom furniture for "Brantwoode" in Hellensburgh, Scotland. It is one of Scotland's finest residences, and one of William Leiper's masterworks. Recently, one of our podiums was selected by Notre dame University for their award winning, environmentally conscious, "Geddes Hall".
In between......we have designed and built thousands of pieces of furniture for "the rest of us" who are in love with the Arts & Crafts Style......
